- Emma Peel (neé Knight) is one of the assistants of John Steed in The Avengers, a series devised by Sydney Newman (though he had left for the BBC by the time the character joined the series). Diana Rigg played her in the TV series and Olivia Poulet plays her for Big Finish Productions.
- Leela was conceived by writer Chris Boucher as a mixture of Emma Peel and Leila Khaled.
- In behind-the-scenes material, director Scott Handcock described the Torchwood audio story The Office of Never Was as "Ianto Jones as Emma Peel" in the classic Avengers episode The Joker.
