During the Doctor's TARDIS's use by the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, its outer shell had a distinct TARDIS police box exterior design.

One account indicated this was the eighth major design of the Doctor's TARDIS exterior. (PROSE: TARDIS Type 40 Instruction Manual [+]Loading...["TARDIS Type 40 Instruction Manual (reference book)"])

Design

Its sides were panelled, with four panels per slat and two slats per side, with the highest panel being six-segment white-frame windows.

The TARDIS doors opened inward and had a door handle on the right door. The TARDIS lock was located on the left side of the right door, between the two middle panels.

The left door had a telephone panel with black writing on a white background.

The right door had a detailed St John Ambulance badge.

The Police Public Call Box signs had white writing on a black background, with back-lighting. (TV: The Eleventh Hour [+]Loading...["The Eleventh Hour (TV story)"], et al.)

The design was taller than even the previous one, (TV: The Day of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Day of the Doctor (TV story)"]) having a three-tiered roof with a steeper incline and elevation for the TARDIS lamp. (PROSE: TARDIS Type 40 Instruction Manual [+]Loading...["TARDIS Type 40 Instruction Manual (reference book)"])

The larger, size leaking version of this TARDIS exterior on Trenzalore lost many of the details on the doors. One of its window panes had the crack which appeared on the normal TARDIS exterior when it crash landed on Trenzalore. (TV: The Name of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Name of the Doctor (TV story)"])

History

This exterior appeared after the TARDIS repaired itself from the damaged from the Tenth Doctor's regeneration. (TV: The Eleventh Hour [+]Loading...["The Eleventh Hour (TV story)"])

Whilst resisting his regeneration, the First Doctor saw the TARDIS exterior from his future, which he briefly believed was his own after being changed by another Time Lord, actually Twelfth Doctor. He pointed out that the windows were the wrong size, the TARDIS blue colour was different and that the exterior itself had "expanded", which the Twelfth Doctor attributed to "all those years of bigger on the inside. You try sucking your tummy in that long." After the TARDIS was damaged by the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration, (TV: Twice Upon a Time [+]Loading...["Twice Upon a Time (TV story)"]) this exterior was replaced by a new one.
