Murder is a criminal offence involving the killing of one or more individuals.

Murdering a being can result in numerous penalties. Common ones are life imprisonment and execution. Killing beings on a battlefield does not usually count as a murder. A killing that is classified as murder usually means it was a targeted attack on a single individual. It is described as one of the most serious crimes in the Universe. Assassination is a murder which is ordered by a superior and tasked to an assassin.

Murder can be contrasted with genocide, which involves the deaths of entire populations.
