Series 7 of Doctor Who is expected to air on BBC One throughout 2012 and 2013.[1] The BBC announced the news of the new series, which will contain fourteen episodes, on the official Doctor Who site on 8 June 2011.[2] Series 7 will begin its run in the Autumn of 2012.[3]

Cast
It has been announced that the Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith will return for the full series.[5] Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond, will return for the series, as will Arthur Darvill as Amy's husband Rory Williams.[6][7] The extent of Gillan and Darvill's involvement in Series 7, however, has not yet been confirmed. This series will see the depature of both Amy and Rory Pond, as well as the introduction of a new companion.[8]

It has been announced that Beth Willis will step down as executive producer,[11] as will Piers Wenger.[12] However, Piers Wenger produced The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.[13]
A new executive producer, named Caroline Skinner will join Steven Moffat. She will produce The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe onwards.[14]
Writers
Steven Moffat, head writer, will be writing five episodes. One of these was the the Christmas episode.[15] Torchwood writer John Fay will be writing an episode.[16] Mark Gatiss will return to write an episode. He has previously written four Doctor Who stories, including two for the Eleventh Doctor, Victory of the Daleks and Night Terrors.[17] Chris Chibnall and Toby Whithouse, who have both previously written Doctor Who episodes are also returning. They will each write one episode. Toby is expected to be writing episode three.[18][19]
Directors
New director Farren Blackburn, directed 2011 Christmas special[20] Saul Metzstein, who is another new director to Doctor Who, will direct the first episodes that will be filmed.[21]
Filming
Filimg for series 7 will begin on 20 February 2012.[22]
Television stories
The BBC have announced that Series 7 will consist of fourteen episodes,[23] starting with the 2011 Christmas special.[24] The episodes are expected to air through 2012 and 2013.[25] However, Steven Moffat has hinted against this.[26]
Moffat recently announced that it will be unlikely there will be any two-part episodes in the series.[27]
