Polish Air Force

The Polish Air Force was the aerial section of Poland's military. The air force was excellently trained. However, in September 1939, during Nazi Germany's invasion of Poland at the beginning of World War II, the Polish Air Force was quickly outmatched by the Luftwaffe. A number of its pilots escaped the country and eventually made it to England, including Pilot Officers Jan Ostowicz and Wilhelm Rozycki.

The exiled Polish pilots began working with their British counterparts in the Royal Air Force but they were looked down upon for their poor showing during the invasion of Poland and saw little action in the early stages of the Battle of Britain. On 27 August 1940, the Eighth Doctor recruited the Poles to investigate the Heliyon activity preying on the RAF. The Poles' training, determination and lust for revenge was very well displayed during the ensuing battle against the Heliyon ship. After the crisis, the RAF allowed the Poles to fight alongside them against the Germans, starting on the 28 August. Rozycki died in aerial combat that night. (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour)
