Joe Smith was the version of the Eighth Doctor in one parallel universe. He ran a detective agency in "a town where life [was] cheaper than left-over lint".
Biography
Joe Smith was in his office in the town when he observed that a coin was his only clue to a multiple homicide.
Soon after, a Cyberman appeared outside his door. He eased back the safety on his "38" and aimed. The Eighth Doctor of another universe briefly experienced these events when he was shown his various possible lives by the Glory.
