Dame Lydia Kingsley worked in the British government.

Biography

Dame Lydia was Winifred Bambera's old sponsor. (AUDIO: Rogue State) She oversaw the inquiry into the Titania disaster, during which neither Torchwood the head of UNIT-UK found anything unusual. (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon) In truth, Dame Lydia and other human officials arranged a power-sharing arrangement with the Zeta Hydri. (AUDIO: The Last Line of Defence)

In 1998, Dame Lydia offered Bambera the role of head of UNIT-UK, (AUDIO: Rogue State) believing that she would agree with the arrangements with the Zeta Hydri when the time came for their invasion. (AUDIO: The Last Line of Defence) When she declined, Dame Lydia instead tasked her with taking over security for the Chuchuna, which were being moved from Vladivostok to England, although she did not initially tell her the truth about the cargo. Upon completion of the mission, Bambera accepted her offer on the condition that Jean-Paul Savarin serve as her second-in-command. (AUDIO: Rogue State)

Bambera met with Dame Lydia to discuss the Titania and sent Louise Rix to the British Space Programme's Space Control. Dr Megan Hollands later asked Dame Lydia to remove UNIT due to their alleged incompetence, but relented after she offered no replacement. When the matter at hand was dealt with, Dame Lydia agreed to look into whoever had contacted Bambera about the imminent arrival of the "Grey Men". (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon)

Dame Lydia put Bambera in charge of security for the United Nations conference at St James's Palace and pretended to be a captive when the Zeta Hydri attacked and captured President Fidelia Esperanza, but the truth was eventually revealed to Bambera. Following the Zeta Hydri's defeat, Bambera expressed her disgust for her and had her arrested. (AUDIO: The Last Line of Defence)

Personality

Dame Lydia believed that the Swiss overdid the simple things and preferred a cheaper alternative to their chocolate. (AUDIO: Rogue State)
