Dr Louise Rix was UNIT-UK's scientific adviser in the late 1990s.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Louise Rix said that a textbook published in 1979 would have been well out of date by the time that she was in school. (AUDIO: Time Flies) She went on holidays to Blackpool with her family when she was young. (AUDIO: Haunt)

Rix studied medicine (AUDIO: Time Flies) at St William's University. On her second day, she met Helena McNamara at SpaceSoc and befriended her, later watching Aliens three times together in its opening week. (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon) After getting her medical degree, she became a scientist. (AUDIO: Time Flies)

Rix convinced Helena to go ahead and join the British Space Programme and, following her supposed death in the explosion of the Titania, she buried what remains of hers could be found. (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon) She had access to the Caverhurst Seedbank and Research Facility's chat rooms. (AUDIO: Time Flies)

Joining UNIT-UK[[edit] | [edit source]]

Following Winifred Bambera's appointment as commanding officer of UNIT-UK in 1998, (AUDIO: Rogue State) UNIT Central Control appointed Rix as her new scientific adviser. Rix was due to meet Bambera one morning when she became aware of the death of Amy Flynn and chose to investigate the CSRF, calling in Bambera and Jean-Paul Savarin. She later incapacitated Dr Winston Grange and reversed his re-sequencing code. (AUDIO: Time Flies)

Rix initially believed that Helena was indeed alive and body-jumping, being further convinced when Irena Kravitz called her "Lou", and had the Britannia searched to ensure that there were no aliens aboard. She teamed up with Private Jake McManis, whom Savarin later made her ask out, and eventually came to believe that "Helena" had actually been an alien. As such, she allowed her to die in Dr Megan Hollands' body. (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon) Rix and McManis began dating. (AUDIO: The Frequency)

After the Eleventh Doctor assisted UNIT, he told Bambera that Rix had his contact details and could get in touch should they have another emergency requiring his help. (AUDIO: Prequel to Geronimo!)

The Zeta Hydri[[edit] | [edit source]]

Whilst Savarin was sceptical, Rix and Bambera were intrigued by the Hoplite Frequency but became suspicious after speaking with Captain Carmen McClean. The trio confronted Colonel Alexander Hagen and were locked in the maze where they proved that they could work together without the frequency, with Rix making a sonic grenade which destroyed the Haruspex Robots. (AUDIO: The Frequency)

Rix took Bambera to The Dunes Hotel in Greensands to investigate the disappearance of Malcolm Climber and came to believe in Baghead. She convinced Bambera to reenact Clare Yale's séance which allowed them to defeat Baghead, who was reanimating Climber's body. Whilst the phenomenon was ultimately unexplained, Rix believed that it was caused by an energy living within the sands beneath the hotel. (AUDIO: Haunt)

Rix liaised with half a dozen space agencies and telecommunications companies when Earth's satellites became non-operational, which she correctly speculated was to allow a spacecraft to enter the atmosphere. She joined Colonel Birch and worked out how to kill the Zeta Hydri by using their sound projection. Once the Omniarch was defeated, she celebrated the new millennium with Bambera and Savarin. (AUDIO: The Last Line of Defence)
