Eldridge Brinkwood was a writer of ghost stories and often read them on a radio. He was rescued by the Eighth Doctor after seeing a strange creature in the radio station and took them to Audacity Montague and Charlotte Pollard. He inquired about the creature. He worked out when in the past Audacity came from an accidentally told her about the war that was going on. He took them to his former lover's, Marcello Strange, house. The Doctor theorised that he was close to death, and he accepted this allowing the creature to take it. After the Doctor stoped the creature, he became weak and the Doctor gave him one last trip to a painting from his partner had giving him his wish to be painted by him.
