Welcome to the Tardis:About Gingerfool

Thanks for your recent edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Fandom wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Blank categories

Hello there, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please do not create blank categories such as Category:Mickey Smith short stories. It is policy that every category should be a subcategory of another category, and also it's best that you include some descriptive text, as outlined at the policy which I linked above, though this is not necessary. Thank you in advance. Aquanafrahudy 📢 🖊️ 16:31, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Spam

They're just spam bots. Nothing to do except make sure every page is documented so it can be deleted when an admin gets on. Najawin 07:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Najawin, not sure what you mean by this - I think I've got caught up in this new spam fiasco - I just make categories that are missing and add VHS covers. Gingerfool 08:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Nah, nah. I was responding to your comment on, uh, Talk:Need More Out Of Your Life Setting Up A Terrarium For Frogs Setting Up A Terrarium For Frogs Setting Up A Terrarium For Frogs. You're good. Najawin 08:20, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
I put it here because engaging with those pages is just counterproductive. Najawin 08:20, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Re: Wrongly Marked as Bot

Hi. You've not been wrongly marked as a bot. I disabled almost all page creations to try and stop the spam wave, and this includes legitimate edits. It seems that the spam wave has stopped so I will disable this measure soon. Bongo50 08:28, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Signature

Hey! Apropos of nothing, I love your "tilted" signature, but also I must point out that signatures are supposed to retain a link to your talk page… --Scrooge MacDuck 16:57, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

I was about to say this myself but I've been beaten to it. However, I would like to mention the relevant policy: T:SIG LOOK. Bongo50 17:44, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
Should be sorted now, let me know if there's any other problems. - SID'gingerfool'RAT (☎) 21:55, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
Looks good! Bongo50 17:45, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

User page

I thought I'd mention 2 things about your userpage:

  1. to make the text readable on dark mode, you can wrap each paragraph with <p style="color:#000000;">[...]</p>. This will override the default text colour.
  2. to display your edit count directly on your page, you have to use the {{#editcount:}} parser function. For example, the following code will create a nicely formatted output: [[Special:EditCount/Gingerfool|{{formatnum:{{#editcount:Gingerfool}}}} edits]]: {{#editcount:Gingerfool}} edits

Bongo50 17:44, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice, I've changed it up and added it. - SID'gingerfool'RAT (☎) 21:55, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

User page templates

Hi, while I love the idea of the user page templates (Template:Gingerfool/UserboxDoctor11 etc.), they should probably be in the "User:" namespace rather than the "Template:" namespace. Thanks, Aquanafrahudy 📢 🖊️ 17:47, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

They've been moved now :) SID'gingerfool'RAT - 🔎 |📂|📝 19:23, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Template categories

Why have you added a lot of templates to Category:Maintenance templates? Many of them are not actually maintence templates and so should not be in this category. Maintence templates are templates used primarily to maintain the wiki, like {{merge}}. In addition, and this applies to many of your other template category additions as well, the way you have added these is incorrect. Firstly, the category should be within a pre-existing <noinclude> tag if that exists. Secondly, and more importantly, the opening <noinclude> tag must be on the same line as the whatever comes before it to prevent unecessary line breaks and white space. For example, see what your change to {{cite source}} did to the template documentation by pushing the closing ")" bracket of each example citation onto a new line. I fixed this by placing the category inside the existing <noinclude> which is on the same line as what came before it. Also note that I switched the category out for one that is more appropriate. Bongo50 16:59, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

I appreciate that you were trying to clear out the uncategorised templates. However, Category:Maintenance templates is not the catch-all for templates that don't fit elsewhere. Category:Templates is. It's perfectly acceptable for a template to just be in that category without being further categorised. It broke {{cite source}} for the reason I already told you. The <noinclude> must start on the same line as whatever came before it. All unecessary line breaks should be removed from templates. Bongo50 13:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Sig template

Off hand I don't do CSS, but just from a quick glance I can tell the two aren't identical. Epsilon wrapped his inside a div element, and you didn't + you have 11 opening span s and only 10 closing span s. Not sure which bit is causing the issue, but those are the bits I'd suggest looking at - wrapping the thing in a div again, or matching the spans. Najawin 14:38, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Please follow the instructions at Help:Signatures#Method two: calling a template. Bongo50 14:59, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
You're welcome! Bongo50 16:02, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Categories

Please stop placing image categories into any category not part of Category:Images. Image categories should only be in subcategories of this. In general, please can you ask before doing large amounts of categorisation? There have now been 2 times where you have incorrectly categorised a large number of pages and, while I know you're trying to clear out the uncategorised pages which is very helpful, it actually ends up making more cleanup work for others. Bongo50 16:25, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

Re: Mass Categorisation?

This is a very frustrating situation because all of those categories should exist and never should have been used without existing, yet fixing the issue is going to have to be a manual process as there isn't a clear rule that a bot would be able to universally apply. Really, they all need to be categorised themselves and to have the relevant image category templates applied. Bongo50 10:31, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Re: Uncategorised categories

The special page you linked doesn't seem to exist? Cookieboy 2005 22:17, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

I'll have a look re: the templates. --Scrooge MacDuck 23:22, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
