"X-gene" is a title based upon conjecture.

A "super gene" was injected into various humans by the Rani as part of an experiment, causing them to become mutants with various powers. She disguised herself as a genetic scientist for the UN science counsel, allowing her to experiment, under the guise of "checking for mutant genes". Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Although not explicitly identified in The 'X' Factor [+]Loading...["The 'X' Factor (game)"], the mutants seen in the game are implicitly the ones featured throughout the Marvel Multiverse, suggesting the "super gene" to be the X-gene, or a close counterpart.
