"Melanesian" was the name given to a dozen aliens who were rescued by a ship on Earth in 1814 after their spaceship crashed. They had gills and differently coloured scales.
After the aliens retrieved the Seventh Doctor's TARDIS from under the water, one of the aliens, Esssar, gave birth to a girl. It was then that the Doctor learned they reproduced by parthenogenesis. (PROSE: No Room)
