Bernice Surprise Summerfield was born to Claire and Issac Summerfield. She's an archaeologist.
Bernice (Benny to her friends) lived with her mother until the Daleks attacked their colony, Bernice saw her mother exterminated by the Daleks.
Her father was missing in action, presumed dead whilst fighting the Daleks on the battleship Tisiphone in 2543. (NA: Return of the Living Dad)
Bernice was put into a military academy for some years, but she escaped and lived in the woods, using the training they had given her to survive, she became some what of a guru to the other young women there. She was betrayed by boy.
She escaped in an escape pod from a troop ship that was enroute to Capella. Then Bernice faked her archaeological qualifications enough to get onto various digs. (BNA: Beyond the Sun)
On one particular dig she was taught that there a subtle difference between between a a knife (food knife) and a spear or hunting knife. (NA: Just War)
Meeting the Doctor
When Bernice was 30 she went to the planet Heaven, doing work on the Heavenite arch that was there. She had made camp with a group of Travellers.
Whilst she was there the Hoothi attacked Heaven and she met the Doctor and Ace. She sees both sides of the conflict between the Doctor and Ace and agrees to travel with the Doctor after Ace departs his company, but only travelling with the Doctor when he promises not to play games with her life. Benny travelled with the Doctor for some time. She was stuck in 1909 London for sometime and gets implanted with Charrl consciousness, but is later rescued by Muldwych. (NA: Birthright) She headed the punk group Plasticine in 1976 writing songs and singing lead vocals. (NA: No Future)
She has met Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, Watson ended up having a crush on her. (NA: All-Consuming Fire)
Bernice fell in love with Guy de Carnac in 1242 France. (NA: Sanctuary)
She was captured and tortured by the Nazis in the 1940s, when they threatened to shave her scalp it nearly breaks her resolve and spirit. (NA: Just War)
She met her husband on the planet Moriel, but they didn't quite realise that they were attracted to each other until Shug pointed it out to them. According to Shug; Jason's bad childhood means he equates love with violence, and therefore only has encounters (mainly sexual ones) with no emotional involvement. Benny on the other hand has given her absent father god-like attributes which no person can measure up to; and maneuvers men into betraying her (re-enacting her father's perceived betrayal of her). They fall in love because they're both trying to sabotage their relationship. (NA: Death and Diplomacy)
Benny gets married to Jason Kane in Cheldon Bonniface (2010) with a host of guests from all space and time.
Benny finally found her father, who had been pulled backwards through time and was running a bookshop / coffee shop in Little Caldwell (England) in 1983, but not just a book shop, it was also a front for helping stranded aliens. (NA: Return of the Living Dad)
Benny, not trusting Jason and his cheating and untrustworthy ways, divorces him when they were on the moon. (NA: Eternity Weeps)
The Doctor dropped Bernice at his house in Kent in 1996. When he returns to pick her up she discovers (with some shock) that he had regenerated. Whilst in England in 1996 she witnessed the Martian Invasion attempt. She assisted UNIT and the Doctor, though when he is consumed by the Red Death she believes him dead. Following the defeat of the Martians the Doctor delivers Benny to St Oscars on the planet Dellah where Bernice had been offered the Edward Watkins chair of Archeology. (NA: The Dying Days)
Dellah University
Bernice received an invitation to take up the Edward Watkinson Chair of Archaeology at St Oscar's University on the planet Dellah whilst on Earth during the 1997 Martian Invasion. (NA: The Dying Days) She was transported to Dellah from Earth by the Doctor, who also gave her Wolsey.
Whilst at Sr Oscar's she met for the first time (from his point of view) Irving Braxiatel.
The Braxiatel Collection
Bernice accepted Irving Braxiatel's offer to come to the Braxiatel Collection following Dellah's destruction / removal from normal space. (BNA: Twilight of the Gods)
In the process of assisting in the set up of the collection she fell pregnant (when an ancient God possessed her body leader her to have sex with a Kiloran named Adrian Wall). (BFBS:The Squire's Crystal)
