Lancashire was a coastal county in the north-west of England.

History

In the 1940s, the Eighth Doctor spent some time in Lancashire. (PROSE: Grimm Reality)

In the 1980s, the Seventh Doctor and Bernice Summerfield attended a Laurel and Hardy convention in Ulverston, Lancashire. (PROSE: The Pit)

In 2003, an alternative Ninth Doctor visited the Lancashire village of Lannet where he met Alison Cheney and defeated the Shalka. (WC: Scream of the Shalka).

Behind the scenes

County borders

The ill-defined borders of Lancashire within the DWU can be a cause of confusion. In the real world, Lancashire was historically a much larger county than it is today. Following a reform of county boundaries in 1974, Manchester and Liverpool - cities which were historically in Lancashire - became part of Greater Manchester and Merseyside respectively; the historical north of Lancashire was merged with Cumberland and Westmorland to form Cumbria.

Cast and crew

Cast members Peter Purves and Jenna Coleman were born in Lancashire. Christopher Eccleston and Bernard Cribbins were born in former boroughs of Lancashire which have since been incorporated into Greater Manchester.

The Reeltime Pictures short film Wartime was shot entirely on location in Lancashire.
