Alois was a German officer during World War II. During his time in occupied France, he fell in love with a local woman by the name of Clementine. Their relationship was a secret until Alois was sent to Russia, where he died during the fighting at Stalingrad.
Grieving over his death, Clementine's secret was exposed and she was accused of being a "horitzonal collaborator". On 5 July 1944, as the Allies pushed the Nazis out of France, Clementine was subjected to a public head-shaving by local Resistance hero Lucien once her village of Vestille was liberated.
