The Alps was a European mountain range.

One of the countries it stretched across was Switzerland, (AUDIO: Winter for the Adept) while another was Italy, in Northern Italy. (PROSE: The Ruby's Curse) One could also see the Alps from Salzburg, Austria. (AUDIO: Better Watch Out)

Around 200 BC, (AUDIO: Ancient History [+]Loading...["Ancient History (audio story)"]) the Doctor accompanied Hannibal as he crossed the Alps (PROSE: Shadowmind [+]Loading...["Shadowmind (novel)"]) with several pachyderm roboforms from the Loxodon nebula, which the Doctor told Hannibal were elephants — alongside 10 children and a nun. (AUDIO: Ancient History [+]Loading...["Ancient History (audio story)"]) To cross the mountains, Hannibal used vinegar to dissolve boulders.
