From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Around 200 BC, (AUDIO: Ancient History [+]Loading...["Ancient History (audio story)"]) the Doctor accompanied Hannibal as he crossed the Swiss Alps (PROSE: Shadowmind [+]Loading...["Shadowmind (novel)"]) with several pachyderm roboforms from the Loxodon nebula — which the Doctor claimed to Hannibal were regular elephants — alongside 10 children and a nun. The Ninth Doctor recalled wanting to avoid awkward questions. (AUDIO: Ancient History [+]Loading...["Ancient History (audio story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In the real world, Loxodonta is the genus for African elephants.

Meanwhile, "pachyderm" is an obsolete order of mammals which once included elephants, rhinoceroses and hippopotamuses. It derives from the Latin pachydermus, which refers to "thick skin".
