During the Second World War, the Luftwaffe fought against the British Royal Air Force (RAF) in what became known as the Battle of Britain, a battle for air dominance over the English Channel, principally during 1940. (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour, PROSE: /Carpenter/Butterfly/Baronet) The British had refused to make peace with Germany after the latter had occupied France earlier in the year (AUDIO: Human Conflict) leading to Germany's dictator Adolf Hitler ordering the Luftwaffe to attack the RAF's airfields, radar sites and the RAF themselves, (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus) with the intention being to cripple the British's efforts to repel a German attack by air and make Operation Sealion a reality. However, despite many casualties, (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour) the British repelled the Luftwaffe's attack, halting the Nazis 'lightning war'. (PROSE: /Carpenter/Butterfly/Baronet)

Alternate timeline[[edit] | [edit source]]
In an alternate timeline in which Nazi Germany won World War II and eventually conquered Africa as a result of the Seventh Doctor and Ace accidentally leaving laser technology in Colditz Castle in October 1944, the Luftwaffe was sent in to quell the Mau Mau Uprising against Nazi rule in Kenya. They proceeded to carpet-bomb the tribal areas and wipe out most of the native population. (AUDIO: A Thousand Tiny Wings)
In the history in which the Ironsides were never discovered by the Eleventh Doctor, the Battle of Britain lasted only one more week after they become fully operational before the Luftwaffe suffered crippling casualties, forcing the Germans to retreat and turn their forces against the Soviet Union. (PROSE: The Ironside Advance)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
