Following part of the river from north-east to south-west, it ran from just west of Gloucester, snaked past Frampton on Severn then continued south-west, passing between Lydney on its west bank and Sharpness on its east. Although the full name "River Severn" does not appear on the map in The Categories of Life, part of the name ("evern") does. Coupled with the village name of Frampton on Severn, we can conclude that the river shown is the River Severn. The full name of this river is later confirmed in Return of the Nightmare.
