- 1 February - Jackie Tyler was born on Pete's World. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen)
- It is unstated whether the Jackie Tyler of the Doctor's universe shared the date of birth, but she was at the very least born the same year. (TV: Army of Ghosts)
- 7 November - The Seventh Doctor, Ace, Markus Creevy and Lt. Raina Kerenskaya attended the ceremony in Red Square in Moscow marking the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, where they saw Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova, the first person and the first woman in space respectively, on the podium. The Doctor explained to Ace that the celebration of the October Revolution was held in November as Russia was still using the Julian calendar, which was eleven days behind the Gregorian calendar, in 1917. A new title sequence and updated logo and a new arrangement of the theme with added echo debuted; with some adjustments, this theme arrangement remained in use until 1980. This was the first appearance of the lead actor's face in the opening credits, a practice in use until 1989.

- Unknown date: The Doctor Who and the Daleks comic strip in TV Comic reverted to Doctor Who after Terry Nation withdrew the rights to the Daleks.
- 1 July - TV: The Evil of the Daleks Episode 7 was first broadcast, ending the fourth season. According to REF: The Official Doctor Who & the Daleks Book, Terry Nation withdrew the rights to use to the Daleks from the BBC to attempt launching a spinoff series; as a result, except for a couple of references, the Daleks did not properly appear again until 1972's TV: Day of the Daleks.
- PROSE: Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks received its first American paperback publication by Avon Books. This was the first Doctor Who novel to be published in the US and the only American edition published until the late 1970s.
- 12 July - Actor Richard Herring was born.
- 18 July - Writer Paul Cornell was born.
- 22 July - The monster movie Kingu Kongu no gyakushû was released in Japan. In 1968 the film was renamed King Kong Escapes and was released in the US. The English-language version of the film was notable for the name given to the villain of the piece -- Dr. Who.
- A film adaptation of The Winter's Tale received initial showings in the US. The film featured Tom Baker, making his film debut, in a bit role.
- The third Doctor Who Annual was published.
- 1 September - Actor Steve Pemberton was born.
- 2 September - TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen Episode 1 was first broadcast, marking the start of Season 5.
