- The Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough arrive in London where they encounter canisters of Movellan virus and Dalek dupicates. (DW: Resurrection of the Daleks)
- Turlough returns to Trion and Peri Brown joins the Doctor on his travels and Kamelion is destroyed. (DW: Planet of Fire)
- Martha Jones is born.
- Lucie Miller's Auntie Pat was killed by Zygons and replaced by her Zygon husband Trevor. (BFA: Grand Theft Cosmos)

- Doctor Who Monthly changes its title to Doctor Who Magazine.
- 08 - Resurrection of the Daleks Episode 1 First Broadcast. Due to a scheduling issue, Resurrection of the Daleks is reedited into two 50-minute episodes rather than the usual 4 25-minute episodes. These are the first "double-length" episodes; the format would be adopted full time in the next season.
- 15 - Resurrection of the Daleks Episode 2 First Broadcast. Janet Fielding leaves the series with this episode.
- 23 - Planet of Fire Episode 1 First Broadcast. Nicola Bryant debuts as new companion Peri Brown.

- 02 - Planet of Fire Episode 4 First Broadcast. Kamelion is destroyed and Mark Strickson leaves the series.

- 17 - John Dearth, who provided the voice of BOSS in The Green Death and portrayed Lupton in Planet of the Spiders dies.
- 22 - The Twin Dilemma Episode 1 First Broadcast. A slight modification is made to the series logo, adding a prism effect (which creates the effect of it being curved); the logo used for merchandising, however, remains as per the version introduced in 1980.
- 23 - The Twin Dilemma Episode 2 First Broadcast
- 27 - Derek Francis, who played Nero in "The Romans," dies from a heart attack in Wimbledon.
- 29 - The Twin Dilemma Episode 3 First Broadcast
- 30 - The Twin Dilemma Episode 4 First Broadcast. Last half-hour episode until 1986. The 1984 season marks the end of the show's 24-episode long seasons. Beginning in 1985 the number of episodes is reduced to 13, later 14. A similar episode count would persist when the series revived in 2005.

- 03 - Doctor Who - Snakedance First Published. With this release, Target Books returns to using artistic covers, although for this and the next Fifth Doctor novelisation, a modified series logo incorporating a photograph of Peter Davison is utilized.
- 15 - Tom Baker guest stars in the American TV series, Remington Steele, in the episode "Hounded Steele".
- 24 - Doctor Who - Enlightenment First Published. A rare occasion where more than one novelisation has been published at different times within the same calendar month. Second and last use of the modified logo-and-photo branding for a Fifth Doctor novelisation, and the final use of a photographic element on a Doctor Who fiction book until the 1988 novelisation of Time and the Rani.

- 19 - Doctor Who - The Dominators First Published. First non-Fifth Doctor novelisation in two years.

- 16 - Doctor Who - Warriors of the Deep First Published. First fully-artistic Fifth Doctor novelisation cover.

- 20 - Doctor Who - The Aztecs First Published.

- 10 - Joan Young, who played Catherine de Medici in The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve dies.
- Alan Lake (Herrick in Underworld) commits suicide.

- 7 - Hayden Jones, who provided the Auton voice in Terror of the Autons as well as playing Vosper in the following story, The Mind of Evil dies.

- 20 - Peter Welch, who played the Sergeant in "The Highlanders" and Morgan in "The Android Invasion," dies in Hammersmith, England.

- 10 - Doctor Who - Frontios First Published.
- 25 - Georgia Moffett, daughter of Peter Davison is born. After unsuccessfully trying out for the role of Rose Tyler, Moffett would later play Jenny in The Doctor's Daughter.
