Moving pages[[edit source]]
Sorry about that, it was only because the pages didn't have the first names given in the episode in them.BananaClownMan ☎ 14:23, October 4, 2015 (UTC)
Same topic, different user and article: Hi Shambala. I've read the thread on not moving pages unless you're an admin (now) and the page for the ((rename)) template, which is the one I would and probably should use then, because it *would* be better and more reasonable, to have a family name page under the family name, instead one of many characters with that faamily name, who isn't even the only one where only this name is given (at least he also has the title as honorific with it). The minimum would be a link to a disambig page on the top - where you would habe "Name (family name)" or somesuch as lemma? While I completely understand, that a wiki with so many articles, registered editors and cross references needs rules to work, sometimes they seem a little far from self-explanatory. --IrasCignavojo ☎ 17:27, November 25, 2015 (UTC)
Century pages[[edit source]]
If events that have specific dates in a century aren't supposed to be mentioned in that article then why are the events of "The Impossible Planet" and "Planet of the Ood" not been removed from the article for 42nd century? Edit summaries[[edit source]]
My apologies if this is irregular, but as undo edits consist of less than a tenth of my overall edits, I had not realised this was so. My reversion of User:Nahald's edit was entirely a mistake, as I had misunderstood the context. However, I soon located the thread discussing oh policy, and discovered my mistake. I do not always explain my reversion primarily because a large number are simply accidental breaches of policy, addition of extraneous or already detailed information, or deliberate vandalism. I will endeavour to ensure that any users who may be unaware of my reasons will be informed by my summary in the future. RogerAckroydLives ☎ 04:05, October 9, 2015 (UTC)

Question[[edit source]]
Hi, Shambala!
Say, for example, there was a TV story in 1966 and a creature wasn't named until in the 90s, where it was named in a Doctor Who book. But in 2015, it was referred to in a new book with a completely different name. Would we use a more "up-to-date" name? I'm asking you this because on the Thunderbirds Wiki, me and Guyus24 cannot decide whether to name a vehicle article "Construction Vehicle" or "Highway Pathfinder". I think the second sounds more like the technical term, whereas the first states the vehicle's purpose. What is the site's policy on article names? Sniping is AwesomeSpeak to the Sniper 08:00, October 10, 2015 (UTC)
- The information has been very helpful, Shambala.
- So regarding its name, in the story in which the Highway Pathfinder appears in (End of the Road) the vehicle is never referred to with a noun/technical term (I checked through the transcript). On our wiki, there hasn't yet been a policy for article names. I'm trying to find one from this wiki and adapt it, seeing as how Doctor Who is a big thing, and is likely to have numerous cases similar to the Highway Pathfinder one. So at the moment, we can rule out "story names". If it wasn't named in the story, would names from books or production crew comments take precedence? Rename and Redirect[[edit source]]
Hi there,
I see you're online so I wondered if I could draw your attention to the page Kpachoдap which I accidentally mispelt. It was an error on my side as the capital 'H' that I saw on the sign in its lowercase form is 'н' and not 'h'. I'm a linguist who can read most of the Cyrillic alphabet and I should have spotted it straight away. My bad!
I've fixed the names on Before the Flood but require an admin to rename the page to "Краснодар", which is the correct spelling. Also, as the English transliteration is 'Krasnodar', I wondered whether you could create a redirect page from Krasnodar to Краснодар, in case some very clever individual searches it.
Thanks for your time! TheFartyDoctor Talk 00:27, October 14, 2015 (UTC) (P.S. I would have just waited but I'd like to get started on the Welsh version of the article on the Welsh Wiki and link them up)
I've insulted nobody[[edit source]]
I don't appreciate how a lively discussion and the correction of another user's false claims is deemed as insulting. I find it quite offensive that you'd consider it as such. If someone has knowledge that ties up a thread neatly, then it should come to the forefront of a discussion. I'm not a horrible person and you suggesting that I am in any way is ridiculous. I've been an active member of this community and have expanded our Wiki into other languages.
I don't wish the final comment on that thread to be an insinuation of anyone's behaviour. I'd appreciate you talking to me on my talkpage, which is what it's designed for. It's a little childish to leave the comment there and then shut it off so I can't respond to it.

Noteworthy timeline information[[edit source]]
Dear Shambala108,
I was following P&P's guidelines on which timeline information is certain enough and noteworthy enough as defined in that old discussion. To quote from her explanation: To me, the only situations where timeline placement is "certain enough and noteworthy enough" is when [...] or there is out-of-universe information (the inside cover of The Hyperion Empire says it is between Last Christmas and Series 9).
And the part of that old decision (which, incidentally, you had dissented on) that I quoted to her on her Talk page was:If the story's timeline is actually certain enough and noteworthy enough, then mention of it will be made in the lead or story notes section.
So, based on a rule and an explanation of this rule by a soon-to-be admin, I provided links to such out-of-universe information from Big Finish "in the lead". Moreover, in the case of [Blood of the Daleks, the timeline information has already been there before my edit and remained there after your reversal. All I've added was a set-in-stone confirmation from Big Finish.
Perhaps, we could all three discuss the definition of "certain enough and noteworthy enough" again?Amorkuz ☎ 07:58, October 28, 2015 (UTC)
- I'm glad we both agree that the current policy should be followed, namely that If the story's timeline is actually certain enough and noteworthy enough, then mention of it will be made in the lead or [...]. I did not violate this policy by posting in the lead section. It is merely the definition of "certain enough and noteworthy enough" that is, as you say, nuanced.
- Thank you for explaining that a statement from a company producing a media on where this media falls is not considered noteworthy by all admins. That takes care of "Here There Be Monsters."
- As I mentioned, in Blood of the Daleks the timeline information is still present (not added by me). Since you consider this to be fine, I will then base my future edits on this case (among others).
- And based on this example, I would like to add back the placement of Quinnis. The situation there is very simple: in the introduction Susan starts discussing how big of an effect the meeting with the Doctor had on Alex. And after some time starts recounting the adventure on Quinnis. Without the knowledge of An Earthly Child (audio story) it is absolutely unclear who Alex is. He is a character introduced by Big Finish and not present on TV. But he is introduced in a different Big Finish range, so it is absolutely impossible to guess that An Earthly Child is relevant (as a previous story in the same range would be by default or as the TV series is by default). Moreover, Big Finish created a short arc of stories that are interconnected, span several ranges, and have to be listened to in a particular order: An Earthly Child - Quinnis - Relative Dimensions (audio story). So my question is: is this information noteworthy enough? I would like to know your opinion on this subtle matter.Amorkuz ☎ 08:04, October 29, 2015 (UTC)

New Category for the intersection of new TV series and Big Finish[[edit source]]
Dear Shambala108,
I've created a category with a somewhat unwieldy name Category:Post-2005 regular Doctor Who cast reprising their roles at Big Finish and only then did I realize that the word "regular" should not really be there: some of the actors were regular cast of Torchwood but not regular on Doctor Who. So far there are only 3 actors that should be added to this category, so it's good to start the list now before it's become too long, which it will become pretty soon. I assume that categories are vetted by admins anyways. But in this case, there is also a need to change the name, which I don't seem to be able to do myself after creating the category. Sorry for causing you extra work.
Sincerely,Amorkuz ☎ 17:38, November 6, 2015 (UTC)

Images: contradicting instructions[[edit source]]
Okay, this means that there are two places in the policies that contradict each other. And it may be good to add the resolution of this contradiction to the thread you pointed me to.
Instruction 1. "Your pictures must be a minimum of 250px wide, but it would be better if they were at least 450px. Why 450px? It'll help "future proof" us, as the site includes more and more responsive design. With a 450px width item, no or very limited pixellation will occur as the user changes her browser width. Note that this aspect of responsive design may or may not be active at the time you read this. See Help:Darwin for more." (From section Widths of Tardis:Guide to images.)
Instruction 2. "Remember that your image is most often going to be viewed at a size no greater than 250px in width. Therefore, it is a waste of bandwidth to upload a picture which is more than 3 times that width. Likewise, files which are bigger than 100kb can cause people with slow internet connections to have slower page loads. Consequently, you should try to keep your images to no more than about 800px wide and 100kb in size. There may be occasional exceptions to this guideline, as with collages made of multiple pictures. You must balance the need for a clear image against the need for a fast-loading image." (From section Rules Checklist of Tardis:Image use policy)
I was not able to compress a 450x450 image to below 100k size. So I cannot fulfill both requirements simultaneously. Now personally I don't believe there are still people for whom 250k creates a problem. But this is a matter of policy. So perhaps it would be good to clarify it not only for me but for everyone or, if it is possible, to post instructions how to decrease the size of a 450x450 image to an acceptable size. I would appreciate if you could inform me how this policy conflict is resolved as the resolution may be posted to a page I do not track.Amorkuz ☎ 01:12, November 11, 2015 (UTC)

Not sure why you ran into problems returning the page from Topic namespace to the main namespace. Appears to have been a temporary issue, though. Doug's moved it back in what the revision history suggests was an ordinary and painless way. You might want to reconsider the length of your block for the user who made the move in the first place, since you'd tied it to your inability to revert the change.

Another Appearances Question[[edit source]]
Back in September you answered a question for me that said, " CzechOut's definition (All characters appearing in only one story are "guests") stresses character rather than actor, so I would think that even if a character is played by more than one actor, he is still considered recurring based on appearances in more than one story." I've since noticed that some characters have appeared in multiple stories like prose or comics, but have only appeared once in a medium where they are played by an actor and are thus listed under guest instead of recurring. Since the definition is more than one story and character is stressed over actor, should those appearances be moved to recurring because the character is recurring?
