Manchester was a city in the north of England. It was located north-east of Liverpool and south-west of Leeds. (TV: The Lie of the Land)

History

• Producer Phil Collinson left Doctor Who in 2008 to become Head of Drama at BBC Manchester.
• A good many behind the scenes figures — like John Simm, Piers Wenger and Beth Willis — have ties to the Life on Mars franchise, which is set in Manchester, and may have partially inspired the character of D.I. Menzies. The surname of Simm's character in the franchise, Sam Tyler, was inspired by Rose Tyler - a companion of the Tenth Doctor.
