In the Unbound Universe, the Kaleds were one of the Skaro's sentient races.

Intellectuals, the Kaleds had once been slaves to the Thals, a warrior race who dominated the planet. This led to a rise in tensions between the two species, ones that were inflamed by an attack from the Quatch and eventually boiled into the Kaled-Thal War. During this conflict, the Kaled Davros briefly defected to the Thals before he created the Daleks from the mutated forms of the Kaleds. This first batch of Daleks, which later came to be known as the Renegades, destroyed the Thal civilisation before they left Skaro. Davros harvested the rest of his species into a second batch of Daleks, ones whose ability to reason and feel mercy made them loyal to him at the cost of their predecessors' ruthlessness.

For centuries, Davros was left as the last Kaled before he sacrificed his life to save Skaro from the Quatch, rendering the Kaleds extinct. (AUDIO: Masters of War)
