On 9 December 1893, Jean Mayeur, a French politician who successfully found a way to be elected to the Chamber of Deputies under a variety of different governmental structures, failed to attend the Chamber for the first time in 26 years. Because the anarchist Vaillant exploded a bomb in the Chamber on that day, Mayeur avoided death — leaving Chris Cwej to wonder if somehow Mayeur either possessed psychic powers — or took advantage of someone else who did.
