Snowcap
Snowcap, or Snowcap Base, (GAME: Lost in Time) was a space tracking station in Antarctica (TV: The Tenth Planet) located at the South Pole. (PROSE: White on White)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
20th century[[edit] | [edit source]]
The opening of the Snowcap was profiled on the British news in 1986, during which General Cutler was interviewed. (PROSE: Mondas Passing) The base was originally commanded by Cutler and operated under International Space Command. Besides its primary function of mission control, it contained an arsenal of cobra missiles and launch facilities for Demeter rockets, each capable of carrying a Z-Bomb. It was supported partially by a relay station in Hawaii. In December 1986, the base was attacked by the Cybermen. Although the Cybermen were ultimately thwarted by the First Doctor, the ordeal resulted in his regeneration into his second incarnation. (TV: The Tenth Planet, Twice Upon a Time)
21st century[[edit] | [edit source]]
In 2006, Snowcap was the headquarters of the FLIPback project, the human race's defence against the sudden reversal of the Earth's magnetic polarity. In December of that year, while under command of General Cutler's daughter Pamela, also a general, the base was again attacked by the Cybermen, this time survivors of the failed Faction invasion. These Cybermen used salvaged Mondasian technology from the 1986 incident, thwarted this time by the Seventh Doctor. (PROSE: Iceberg)
In December 2008, the Gelidons took over the base and the First Doctor and Steven Taylor helped evacuate the people there before sabotaging the Gelidon equipment and forcing them to withdraw for repairs. Meanwhile, Sari Martínez had been making a journey from Belgrano base to Snowcap base at the South Pole, but was forced to cut the trip short in order to rescue the First Doctor, whose snowcat vehicle had been destroyed in an explosion. By 2048, Snowcap University was built on the site of Snowcap Base. (COMIC: Blood and Ice)
