Steel (The Vanishing Ray)
Steel was an MI5 agent who worked closely with the head of the British Secret Service in 2065.
After the Chief received a letter informing him that Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward had possession of an invisible ray torch, Steel was sent to investigate. He posed as a salesman for the latest Universal Cook Book but, despite gaining access to Creighton-Ward Manor and initially stealing it, he was unaware of Parker's skill as a pickpocket who stole it back for Penelope. Reprimanded for his failure, he was then sent to bring them in for interrogation. However, during her questioning, Lady Penelope convincingly claimed that Steel had successfully stolen the torch and was keeping it in secret which resulted in him being interrogated for some time. However, it eventually became apparent that she had wasted their time and Steel was exonerated. They later interrogated the Hood together, who was discovered unconscious on their doorstep, but with no charges except illegal entry into the country, all the Chief could do was arrange for him to be deported back to Malaya.
