The Doctor's New Invention was a parodical sketch based on Doctor Who that featured on It's a Square World.

Synopsis

Doctor Fotheringown is invited to be interviewed in a studio about his new invention, the first rocket set to be shot into space by British scientists. Soon, the clumsy, eccentric old man accidentally presses the launch button on the working model brought into the studio, sending him and his interviewer into orbit.

Story notes

  • Notably, this is the first Doctor Who parody, only 39 days after the original broadcast of the first episode An Unearthly Child.
  • This also makes Clive Dunn the second actor to play the Doctor in any medium.
  • Clive Dunn dons William Hartnell's original First Doctor costume.
  • The sketch was released on DVD in The Aztecs: Special Edition.
