The tuxedo was a type of jacket from Earth, generally worn in the evenings on semi-formal occasions.

The Tenth Doctor had a black tuxedo which he sometimes wore with a white shirt and a black bow tie. He believed it was cursed, as life-and-death situations occurred when he wore it. (TV: Voyage of the Damned) Martha Jones believed that the tuxedo was not to blame, opining that the Doctor simply attracted life-and-death situations. (TV: The Lazarus Experiment)

The Tenth Doctor wore his tuxedo at Jackie Tyler's birthday, (TV: Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel) the press conference at Lazarus Laboratories (TV: The Lazarus Experiment) and on the Titanic. (TV: Voyage of the Damned)

The Eleventh Doctor had a white tuxedo. He wore it to a Christmas party at Frank Sinatra's house and later that evening to be married to Marilyn Monroe.
