Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Brenda enjoyed listening to the music of Otis Redding because she knew her sister, Jean, did not like it. She put a china sheep that Jean gave her on display despite not liking it and missed her once she was gone. (AUDIO: Sonny [+]Loading...["Sonny (audio story)"]) She married Barry Williams and would later note that she arrived on time for her wedding. They had a son, Rhys, (TV: Something Borrowed [+]Loading...["Something Borrowed (TV story)"]) who was born in North Wales, (AUDIO: The Sin Eaters [+]Loading...["The Sin Eaters (audio story)"]) as well as a daughter. (PROSE: Slow Decay [+]Loading...["Slow Decay (novel)"])

Brenda and Barry were happy when Rhys joined the Boy Scouts as it meant that they were able to rekindle their sex life and she criticised Barry's driving when he took the family to places like Trecco Bay and St Fagans in the summer. (AUDIO: Visiting Hours [+]Loading...["Visiting Hours (audio story)"]) Whilst working as a chambermaid, she found several pornographic magazines in people's bedrooms and left one on its owner's pillow. She received the largest tip she ever received in that job afterwards. (AUDIO: Sonny [+]Loading...["Sonny (audio story)"])

Brenda once owned a cat who scratched the walls of her house and caused serious damage. (AUDIO: Poppet [+]Loading...["Poppet (audio story)"])

A growing family[[edit] | [edit source]]

Brenda and Barry did not approve of Rhys's relationship with Gwen Cooper, whose mother, Mary, she did not get along with. (TV: Something Borrowed) She also complained about how rarely Rhys visited her and they once had an argument at Christmas. (TV: Everything Changes)

Brenda and her husband attended Rhys and Gwen's wedding and she spent much of her time trading insults with Mary. Brenda was mistaken for a Nostrovite by Torchwood Three, but Gwen correctly identified her due to her "hideous" perfume. She was later retconned and was no longer reluctant to have Gwen as her daughter-in-law. (TV: Something Borrowed)

Unlike Mary and Geraint, Brenda did not understand why Rhys and Gwen left Cardiff (PROSE: First Born) following what she called "that business with the kids". (AUDIO: Visiting Hours) She informed them when she was visited by people looking for them and asked for an address so that she could send a teddy bear to her newborn granddaughter, Anwen. They were unable to give her one. (PROSE: First Born)

Aware of Torchwood[[edit] | [edit source]]

Brenda had hip replacement surgery at St Helen's Hospital and was visited by Rhys, who discovered Mr Tate and Mr Nichols' mission to kidnap her for Ronald Fletcher to transplant some of her organs into Prince Abdullah. He kept her safe until the operation failed, after which the Cleaners came after them and they hid in the mortuary until they had gone. In the morning, Brenda reflected on how strange the world had become since Rhys married Gwen and he promised he would not wait so long before seeing her again. (AUDIO: Visiting Hours)

When Gwen learnt of the Sonny robots, Brenda agreed to move to Glades Water Retirement Home to experience them and make sure that they were not a threat. She was initially uncomfortable with her Sonny, but she came to enjoy his company and grew closer to him as Rhys's visits became less frequent and Sonny proved more attentive and a better listener. The decision was made to recall the robots because of them becoming too human, so Brenda took Sonny and Pihu to a shack in the hopes of saving them, only for them to be reset remotely. Later, Rhys recovered Sonny and gave him back to her. (AUDIO: Sonny)

Brenda sent recipes to Rhys after he and Gwen moved to Iceland, including one for lasagne which resulted in a meal that Gwen did not enjoy. (AUDIO: Misty Eyes)
