Beltane was a small, fanatical pagan terrorist group active in London in 2019.

They believed that the unique plant later known as the Ogden Farm sample was a gift that had been left to them "by the Gods", destined to serve as a "pure" reagent they could use to unleash a "sacred fire" that would consume the world and somehow purify it of all evil. Discovering that the sample was being studied at Modernex Labs as a potential base for a clean fuel, the members of Beltane began worming their ways into the good graces of various people employed at Modernex, with, for example, Jonathan getting close to lab assistant Harriet King.

P.R.O.B.E. learned of Beltane after they destroyed a gasworks facility, and began investigating them. Giles identified one member of Beltane and managed to capture her after a chase through Oxford Street. She killed herself rather than be interrogated, but her trail led them to another member of Beltane, Jonathan. Now aware that P.R.O.B.E. was onto them, Beltane accelerated their plan, with four members (including Jonathan) breaking into Modernex Lab. Three were killed in a shootout with P.R.O.B.E. members Giles, Tasha and Bedevere, but Jonathan managed to capture the Ogden Farm sample and climb up to the roof. He struggled to ignite it with his lighter, however, due to the rain, and this bought P.R.O.B.E. enough time to talk him down with the hep of Harriet. The sample was recovered, the threat averted; Jonathan was briefly imprisoned as the rest of Beltane was dismantled. (AUDIO: Broken Bonds)
