Christmas shopping
Christmas shopping was a practice done in preparation for Christmas, in which people went shopping for Christmas presents. (PROSE: Last Minute Shopping) Before the holiday, Oxford Street in London was full of people battling over who'd get what. (PROSE: Christmas Special) It was so busy on Oxford Street a week before Christmas that one could barely move. (PROSE: History 101)
Some people did their Christmas shopping on 24 December, the day before Christmas, (AUDIO: Find and Replace) while Lucie Miller had the sense to ask to take the TARDIS to January, instead, for her and the Eighth Doctor to do theirs. Shops held many sales after Christmas, (AUDIO: Relative Dimensions) beginning on Boxing Day. (TV: The Runaway Bride)

Whilst Christmas shopping in New Zealand, Sarah Jane Smith and many other shoppers were kidnapped, along with a large percentage of turkeys. Abandoning his own shopping to investigate, the Fourth Doctor discovered the Hazoodians were using turkeys to make alcohol, and had kidnapped the humans by accident. The Doctor returned all the kidnapped humans to Earth. (PROSE: Autaia Pipipi Pia)
The Fifth Doctor took Tegan Jovanka and Turlough to Earth on Christmas Eve in the 21st century so they could do some last-minute Christmas shopping. Of the three, the only one who managed to get a Christmas gift, which did then not get lost in the resulting raucous, was Tegan. In the end, the wristwatch Tegan got for Turlough, which she stole, cracked when they returned to the TARDIS, as the Cloister Bells began to ring. (PROSE: Last Minute Shopping)
At Lucie Miller's suggestion, she and the Eighth Doctor did their 22nd century Christmas shopping during the subsequent January sales. The Doctor was able to pay for the gifts using his previously untouched UNIT salary, which had accrued a great deal of interest over the years. Both Lucie and Susan Foreman bought the Doctor a pair of socks, much to his delight, as "no one ever [bought him] socks". The Doctor intended to give Lucie socks, as well, plus a TARDIS key with a musical ringtone. (AUDIO: Relative Dimensions)
In 2006, a group of Roboforms attacked Rose Tyler and Mickey Smith while they were Christmas shopping in London. (TV: The Christmas Invasion)

In approximately the 2000s,[nb 1] Wilfred Mott did his Christmas shopping around London before entering a church, interrupted by visions of the Saxon Master laughing. Wilf and the Tenth Doctor later got together at a café outside which Donna Noble put her Christmas shopping away in her car. Donna shouted at a traffic warden to leave her vehicle alone. (TV: The End of Time)
Clara Oswald convinced the Eleventh Doctor to join her for Christmas shopping, in pursuit of a present for her father. The Doctor was less than enthusiastic. Here, they encountered the Hedera, who were posing as carol singers. (COMIC: The Holly and the Ivy)
