Deptford was a London district.
In 1592, Matt Jobswortham noted it was "near London", with the proximity obvious by the amount of activity there. Jobswortham accidentally hit Mary Harries with his cart on a street in Deptford. It was widely believed that Christopher Marlowe was stabbed to death in a Deptford tavern. (PROSE: The Empire of Glass)
