Forty: Volume 1 introduced the premise: the Doctor is being pulled along his own time stream, to various points within his fifth incarnation. Two versions of the Doctor actually star in this first anthology: a younger Fifth Doctor, who discovers that Adric is gone and Tegan had left the TARDIS, to come back again, and an older Fifth Doctor, who gets the chance to correct his past behaviour toward Adric. The first adventure, Secrets of Telos, is a return to Telos in a sequel to TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen, and on the flip side, God of War introduces the Ice Warriors to the Vikings of 9th centuryIceland. Both stories end on a cliffhanger with the Doctor getting pulled along his time stream all over again, leading into the next anthology.
