Amanda Latimer was an anthropologist from Somerville College, Oxford University and went on a journey up the Congo. She detailed this in a journal. She got annoyed at the sexism of both Oliver Erpingham and the staff he hired. She was curious about the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown but allowed them to join her expedition. She was following the route of her father who was the vicar on the Erpingham estate.
