Alternate timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]

In an alternate timeline where Earth was ruled by the Silurians in 1993, Ace nearly fell from the Clifton Suspension Bridge after one of the rusting support struts snapped. She was rescued and taken to Cheddar Gorge. (PROSE: Blood Heat [+]Loading...["Blood Heat (novel)"])

In a timeline where Earth was decimated by "the Cleansing" in 1843, the existence of the Clifton Suspension Bridge was a key clue for the Eighth Doctor in deducing that history had been changed before the Cleansing, as the Bridge should have been designed later. The Doctor was eventually able to determine that the key change in history was Jared Malahyde, who had been manipulated by Watchlar into providing Brunel with advanced metalworking techniques that allowed him to complete various key projects 'ahead of schedule'.
