Dalek Caan was the twenty-sixth The Blogs of Doom short story, focusing on Dalek Caan from The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. It was published in Doctor Who Magazine #545.

Summary[[edit] | edit source]

Sitting in the Crucible, Dalek Caan mutters to himself about what will come to be — how the Dark Lord of Time is coming, how his companions will soon be summoned, and reflects on how to word his next prophecy, notably deciding to foretell a loss of memories as a "death" for effect. Then his crazed mind wanders to what he has seen in the Last Great Time War, and what he has seen that is yet to happen even to the Doctor. Eventually Caan sulks about the Supreme Dalek banishing him to the Vault but giggles to himself about the revenge he has cooked up, bringing the strands of Time together in a web of death to bring about the end of everything Dalek.

Notes[[edit] | edit source]

  • Dalek Caan states the Children of Time will cross time, space, and the "void beyond the mind," a reference to Jon Pertwee's Who is the Doctor.
  • Caan foresees the Doctor meeting Bill Potts and refers to her as "asBill", a metafictional reference to how her introduction in Friend from the Future ("Introducing Pearl Mackie as Bill") was styled to appear without a space ("asBill"). Whether this was an error or simply a stylisation, it had become somewhat of a joke in the Doctor Who fan community, even appearing on The Fan Show.
  • Caan claiming that he will "dance through the fire" may be a hint that he survives the destruction of the Crucible in Journey's End, although only a vague and implicit one, as he's quoting a line from Katy Perry's song "Roar": "And I am dancing through the fire, because I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roooaaaaar!"
