Department of Curiosities

The Department of Curiosities was a room hidden within G.R. Owen's department store. When Ianto Jones awoke inside the Department, Gareth informed him that one could only enter by "falling through the walls".

Originally, the room was used for unsold and unused items and furniture. By the time of Ianto's visit, the room was just full of useless junk that went on forever and kept rearranging itself. The room itself had detached from the physical store and hung in a blue, endless and timeless void.

Gareth had been trapped inside the Department since 1910, when he was known as Gareth Robert Owen, the founder of the department store.

In 2009, Mr Absalom and Miss Valentine from Firestone Finance took over G.R. Owen in an attempt to find the Department. The two of them, along with Torchwood, found and entered the Department, and informed Ianto that Gareth was in fact a former employee of Torchwood who had merged with a dangerous alien.

Feeling under threat from Firestone, Gareth unleashed the alien monster into Absalom, allowing them all to escape the Department. The Department then destroyed itself, and Mr Absalom, upon their exit. (AUDIO: Department X)
