Fridtjof Nansen

Fridtjof Nansen was an Arctic explorer and scientist. He and Hjalmar Johansen were looking for the North Pole and taking scientific readings. He was a bit suspicious of the Ninth Doctor, but eventually came round and told him about their experiences. After the Aurora took Johansen, he went looking for him and learnt more about the species. He swore to the Doctor to keep him secret. Nansen eventually won the Nobel Peace Prize, after which the Doctor took him to the Pole.
