Gideon (A Bloody (And Public) Domaine)
Godfather Gideon was a high-ranking member of Faction Paradox during the War in Heaven. His Faction Paradox mask was that of a silver human skull, (PROSE: A Bloody (And Public) Domaine) and he was fond of pristine suits. (PROSE: White Canvas, The Gendar Conspiracy, etc.) Having helped his cousin Auteur to create Gendar, he was worshipped there as the God in tandem with Auteur's "Goddess". He was House cousins with Auteur; the two of them abandoned the Homeworld, supposedly to join the Faction. (PROSE: A Bloody (And Public) Domaine) In actuality, however, they spent some time as solo operators in the wider universe. Gideon went through several lives; eventually, he ended up as a male incarnation (following a non-male one, but which was not his first male body) with a "foppish" penchant for pristine suites.
Wanting a comfortable "day job" from which she could plan out her next moves, Auteur eventually teamed up with Gideon as well as Virtuoso (an exiled member of the Firmament, their species' equivalent in another reality) to build up a civilisation on the barren planet Gendar which should not rightfully have existed. While Virtuoso posed as a native and became the perpetual leader of the government, Auteur and Gideon became "the Goddess" and "the God", worshipped and pampered all day long. While the history they'd engineered spanned a billion impossible years, the Goddess and God spent around a hundred subjective years on Gendar, during which they supervised the construction of a skycraper-sized statue of the Goddess in the foundations of which Auteur hid a number of secret workspaces and stashes. They often enjoyed relaxing sunbathing together, though it took the better part of that century for Gideon to agree to sunbathe without his suit on. (PROSE: The Gendar Conspiracy)
Eventually, Gideon left Auteur's side to join the Faction Paradox. (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice) His cousin learned that she would joi in her next incarnation, and enlisted his help in conning the cultists into believing this current version of her was a future version who'd already sworn fealty to the cult. This allowed her to divert their resources for her own purposes. Auteur's grand scheme to turn the 10,000 Dawns into fiction was, however, derailed at the last moment by Graelyn Scythes, forcing her to spent over fifteen years running an artificial Town in the White Canvas, whose population was mostly made up of cultists. Initially, Gideon visited it often and continued helping Auteur, even trying to use the Town for his own purposes by bringing the antichrist-to-be known as the Hollow Childe, into whom he'd taken an interest, to the Town to be trained.
However, as Auteur's plan dragged on, she and Gideon grew increasingly apart; Gideon was all the more unwilling to keep covering for Auteur back in the Empire because Auteur, as part of her own plan, was allowing the hundreds of cultists at her command to grow "soft", and had even permitted — or perhaps even engineered — for the Hollow Childe to get friends her age and turn away from the path of rage and destruction. This was particularly upsetting to Gideon, who'd been looking forward to the feather in his cap that mentoring the antichrist might be; Gideon saw Auteur's actions as a petty need to "break everyone else's toys".
Eventually, Auteur's plan came crashing down. A much greater length of time later from Auteur's perspective, but none at all from that of Gideon or the White Canvas, a dying Auteur, now in his thirteenth incarnation, was brought back to the Canvas by F.I.D.O and Graelyn Scythes, who called Gideon for help. (PROSE: White Canvas) Gideon arrived with the Faction and, agreeing to give his cousin one last chance, convinced the Faction to allow Auteur to join properly so that he could be granted a shadow-weapon and use it to save himself. A sullen Gideon subsequently represented his faction at the negotiations for the Christmas Needle Agreement. He was seen talking with Kinan Jans and, later, ran into Graelyn Scythes. He made it clear that he resented her for driving a wedge between him and Auteur, but he still agreed to take one final Christmas present to Auteur on Graelyn's behalf: an empty notebook. When Auteur was imprisoned in the Shadow Spire by Faction Paradox, Gideon continued to visit him. Over the years, the visits became less frequent, until at last, one day, Gideon criticised Auteur's characterisation of the Enemy as Dracula, and was sacrificed to the Loa.
