The Great Cyber War, (AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen) also known as the Second Cyberwar, (PROSE: Original Sin) was a notable conflict of the Cyber-Wars in which humanity triumphed over Cybermen through the creation and use of glitterguns, (AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen, TV: Revenge of the Cybermen, et al.) which Tobias Vaughn took credit for. (PROSE: Original Sin) For the Cybermen, this war was enmeshed with their Vogan War, in which they sought to destroy Voga to stop the supplying of the glitterguns' gold dust ammunition. (PROSE: Killing Ground, TV: Revenge of the Cybermen)

The work of natural historians who were allowed to study the monster information vaults of the Doctor's TARDIS noted that a "Great Cyber War" took place in the 51st century, involving the Cyberium and the Alliance. (PROSE: The Monster Vault) The Master, a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, once lived through this Great Cyber War. He later told Ashad that he had been witness to the "atrocities" afflicted on the Cybermen in this war and even implied that his own people were responsible for at least some of them as he acknowledged that the two species had been enemies and claimed to want to put it right. (TV: The Timeless Children)

Aftermath[[edit] | edit source]

A lone cyber-ship which survived the War. (TV: Revenge of the Cybermen)

The Sixth Doctor speculated that there could have been several lost Cyberman fleets which survived the War; he listed the Orion Nebula, Vega System, and Madillon Cluster as possible locations of dormant Cybermen. (AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen) The Fourth Doctor noted that the Cybermen were defeated so completely by the glittergun that the end of the War marked "the end of the Cybermen except as gold-plated souvenirs that people use as hatstands." (TV: Revenge of the Cybermen)

The Eighth Doctor and Charlotte Pollard visited the Garazone and saw a gold-plated cyber-helmet being sold in the market. From this visit, they became involved in the return of a group of Cybermen who had been hiding in Orion. (AUDIO: Sword of Orion) The Time Lords dated this adventure to 2503, noting that Pollard's presence had caused distortions in history. (AUDIO: Neverland)

Legacy[[edit] | edit source]

The Cybermen were a key player in the Orion War after this. (AUDIO: Scorpius) By the 33rd century, historians referred to the "Great Orion Cyber Wars" of the 26th century. (WC: Real Time)

In 2975, Tobias Vaughn claimed to the Seventh Doctor that he was responsible for designing the glittergun which won the Second Cyberwar. (PROSE: Original Sin)

While in the years following the Great Cyber War it was the only Cyberwar by that title, (AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen) by the far future there existed "fake Cyberdudes" who did reenactments of battles from the "last great Cyberwar". Gabby Gonzalez, the Tenth Doctor, Cindy Wu, and Anubis once encountered these reenactors. (COMIC: Vortex Butterflies) According to legend, the CyberReaper was born at the end of the "last Great Cyber War," being comprised of reassembled parts of Cyber-bodies on the blood-drenched fields of Ryzzenbach. This was documented in the Journal of Improbable Things. (GAME: The Edge of Reality)
