Proud Son of Sontar (episode)
Proud Son of Sontar was the seventh event in the Lost in Time video game made by Eastside Games. It featured the Sontaran Trak.
Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]
Ensign Trak, a loyal member of the Sontaran Empire, is sent to Earth to defeat the Doctor once and for all. The issue for him is that he isn’t the sharpest knife in the shelf, even when it comes to Sontarans.
Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
A Sontaran Captain calls for Soldier Trak to report for duty for an important mission. Trak obeys. His mission is to travel to Earth to hunt the enemy of their people, and orders him to launch his Time Ship at once with the given coordinates. Trak obeys. The Captain mumbles to himself that Trak will be a good distraction. Trak hears something and ask if there was another order. The Captain tells him that his auditory canal must be malfunctioning, then they both chant. The Captain tells Trak to carry on as "glory" awaits him.
(the above paragraph documents a later addition to the storyline which wasn’t present in the originally released story)
Trak complains that he should have brought a lower ranking soldier to perform his task as he has not commanded a Sontaran Time Ship before. He then proudly proclaims that he will undoubtedly perform admirably anyway, being confident he has the right co-ordinates. He then declares his hunt begun. He cries out "For the glory of Sonta-", then begin second guessing himself.
At Skaro, the Daleks are planning. One proclaims that Dalek supremacy will be achieved, when interrupted by a voice with the request for the Earth's co-ordinates. The other Dalek says that they are stored in the Database, with the first saying that Planet Earth is in the Mutter's Spiral. Trak laughs at his ability to outsmart the Daleks. The Daleks, shocked, asks him to identify himself, with the other calling for extermination of the infiltrator. Trak then thinks it smart to retreat.
Trak then arrives in Victorian London, 19th century. He claims to not let a tactical miscalculation affect him as a small detour would mean nothing compared to his victory. Trak takes in his surroundings, calling the facilities inefficient, but the air good enough. Trak begins his search for the Doctor, claiming he must end them, for the glory of the Sontaran Empire.
Jenny Flint is on her way back after collecting a bunch of stuff for Madame Vastra when Trak sees her and calls her. Jenny turns around, asking what he want when she sees that it’s a Sontaran. Trak deduces that she must be the Doctor, given this knowledge. Despite Jenny’s protests, Trak insists that she cannot trick a Sontaran Warrior. Jenny tells him she has no desire to fight, but admits to know he won’t take no for an answer.
Back with Vastra, she worriedly asks Jenny if everything is alright as she took a long time. Jenny explains that she had a curious encounter with another Sontaran. Vastra asks if she’s sure it wasn’t Strax, to which Strax calls out behind her that he hasn’t left for any missions. Vastra then asks if she bested the Sontaran in combat, to which Jenny replies that she left him in a ditch as they’re too busy. Strax protests that the Sontaran must be from an inferior squad if Jenny can best him, to which Vastra replies they at least know they can handle him if he re-appears. Trak then shows back up.
Vastra, confused, asks Jenny if she didn’t leave him. Jenny confirms but adds that he must be more hard-headed than Strax. Strax objects, claiming he is extremely hard-headed. Trak demands them to reveal the location of the Doctor. Jenny tells Vastra he thought she was the Doctor earlier. Strax tells the soldier he should return to his squadron. Trak is surprised by seeing a captive Sontaran and chastise Jenny and Vastra for being war criminals without honour. Strax tells Vastra that he will handle it. Vastra protests, worrying Strax will kill him, wanting to solve this peacefully.
Strax defeats Trak and tell him to stay down as he’s gonna fetch his medical kit. Trak complains about his shame of being defeated about a captive warrior. Vastra asks him if he will now leave peacefully, but Trak says he will not retreat from his quest to find the Doctor. Vastra asks him what he’s planning to do after finding them, to which Trak answers he will destroy them in Sontar’s name. Vastra asks him if he will leave if she tells him where to find the Doctor, to which Trak replies in a very Sontaran way, which Vastra takes as a "yes".
Jenny is surprised that Vastra's method worked, to which Vastra replies that she has experience with difficult aliens. Strax concurs that he didn’t know Vastra had that experience. Jenny asks where Vastra sent Trak, and Vastra replies that she gave him some co-ordinates. Confused, Jenny asks where to, to which Vastra replies that the Doctor has travelled beyond the cosmic wastes. Jenny asks if she sent him somewhere awful, and Vastra replies that she gave the Sontaran a few horrible choices. The Fourth Doctor, along with Leela, drops by for a visit.
Elsewhere, Trak feels humiliated for being defeated, telling himself that he needs to analyse their strategy before facing the Doctor. He then reaches the conclusion that he was defeated because he was trained to combat the Doctor and Jenny wasn’t the Doctor, and that he now had obtained vital intelligence to track the Doctor. Trak then looks for his newly acquired co-ordinates.
The Doctor asks Vastra if she’d like a Jelly baby, which she declines. The Doctor then ask her if she obtained the important information he needed. Leela then deduces that a battle has taken place, to which the Doctor asks if there had been a civil war, and Leela answers it was a small but fierce one. The Doctor then questions Vastra about it, which Strax interrupts, saying that it was nothing to worry about, only an insubordinate boy. The Fourth Doctor then says he and Leela has to go to contront their destiny. Vastra bids him goodbye, confident he will handle it well.
At the Stonehenge, Rory Williams sits out another year, protecting the Pandorica, hoping the Doctor will return soon. Trak then arrives, and heard him. Rory confirms he heard correct. Trak ask him if he is the Doctor, which Rory denies. Trak then excuses himself to leave the premises. Rory apologises for his inability to help. As Trak leaves, Rory thinks, then promptly ask him to wait and come back.
