Marianne was a roommate of Winnie Clarence's at Snowcap University.

In 2048, she was assigned to the top-secret Project Sub-Zero, where she was engineered into a sea creature hybrid through Dr Patricia Audley's experiments and was locked up. She was freed with the help of Winnie and the Twelfth Doctor, but didn't want to leave Winnie behind after being left for dead in a vat of liquid ice.
Due to her discovery, Winnie had survived when she unwittingly had a syringe of Dr Audley's experimental blue blood serum injected into her, allowing her to live inside the ice. Marianne hoped to have the experimentation done on her and the other students reversed, if if there wasn't, she would stay behind in Antarctica. (COMIC: Blood and Ice)
