Orange was a town in New South Wales, Australia on the way from Parkes to Forbes (or from Forbes to Parkes).

Chick's father once made him drive two bickering cousins of his to Orange. Chick had "solved the problem of their constant noise by dumping them by the side of the road and driving off, returning half an hour later to pick up a couple of very quiet kids."
