The Doctor encountered a set of vortex amoebae before receiving a reminder to visit [[Hallifax]] and [[Ann Lister]]. He was taken by [[Ambika Desai]] to a police station for impersonating a police officer. He delighted in this experience. He then pushed Ambika to investigate the death of a local by entropic degradation. He was affected by a resonance field around the town. [[Frank Kelsey]] told him about the Hallifax Gibbet. He found the blade and thought that it was the centre of the field. He realised he was the cause of the problem and worked out how to close the time rip the TARDIS caused.
