How do we nominate a page for "feature article" because this page deserves it Bigshowbower 12:01, 11 July 2008 (UTC) Lynx This page needs a decent picture from the show or at least one of just a Sontaran. The current one looks a little tacky. Taccer 07 12:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

The picture is taken care of. -- User:Steed 12:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

We need to update some of the history. Bits like The Betrothal of Sontar, Shakedown etc need expanding and some comic strips need shortening.

Sontar[[edit source]]

Was Sontar destroyed before the events that had occurred in The Sontaran Experiment? --Chicken Bond 01:49, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

No, what made you think that it was destroyed? --Bigshowbower 05:30, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Well it does say in the History of the Sontarans in the Rutan-Sontaran War section that "During either the 25th or 26th century, the Rutans destroyed the Sontaran homeworld, Sontar, with photonic bombs, though some escaped with the Sontaran racepool." --Chicken Bond 10:46, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Main Image[[edit source]]

Is there a better picture that can be used for the main image. You can hardly see the Sontaran in this picture.Icecreamdif 15:51, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Who stole their handbags?[[edit source]]

I know it's minimal but should we include the little one-liner in The Pandorica Opens when the Doctor asks "Who stole their handbags?" They incorrectly mentioned it as 'hammocks' on Wikipedia. Tell me what you think.

Were they genetically engineered to live on a high gravity world?[[edit source]]

Im only asking because "Due to Sontar's high level of gravity, the Sontarans had great strength and resilience in lower gravity environments like Earth or Gallifrey. (DW: The Two Doctors) Despite this strength, Sontaran muscles were designed for load bearing rather than leverage." implies the use of genetic engineering and i thought i should ask before changing designed to adapted Andrew-108 18:18, January 22, 2011 (UTC)

Destiney of the Doctors[[edit source]]

in the "Desiny of the Doctors" game, they can be defeated by firing the occupants of an angry beehive at them. Sclera1 14:40, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

New Infobox Image[[edit source]]

This one?

The quality of the infobox image seems very poor. You can hardly see the face of the Sontaran in it. May I suggest this one as a possible replacement? --Borisashton 18:53, May 22, 2017 (UTC)

Infobox tabbed gallery?[[edit source]]

Now we have discussions underway on Talk:Cyberman, Talk:Davros, Talk:Dalek, Talk:Omega etc. about using tabbed galleries in their respective infoboxes, do we think we could do the same for Sontarans? There's a funny irony to the fact that the Sontarans are supposedly a clone race but wind up looking different in multiple appearances (although I guess they could just be different clone batches), but I think it'd be good to showcase different designs from over the years as they have been noticably different (in costume, helmet, mask and even height). — Fractal Doctor @ 18:00, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I think that would make sense. Aquanafrahudy 📢 18:36, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
Question is, should each Sontaran have their own gallery tab, or is that too much? Should images show just the head/face, or try and show different helmets/costumes too? — Fractal Doctor @ 12:10, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
It would be unspeakable levels of too much. It was decided in the Forums that gallery tabs would be used to illustrate genuinely alternative forms — not "the same character in a different costume". Individual Sontarans' pages should not have gallery tabs unless they had an in-universe physical transformation, or were recast.
As regards this page, since it illustrates Sontarans in general rather than specific images, full-body pictures illustrating the armour can be used if we can find good ones for all the designs/batch-strains. Scrooge MacDuck 12:19, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
I figured as much, but worth asking! What would warrant inclusion then? The ones that spring to mind: Linx, (Shakedown?), the 2008 design, the Flux design. (The others in Classic Who are basically retreads of Linx's original look.) — Fractal Doctor @ 12:35, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
Linx, Shakedown, 2008 and Flux, certainly. I'm of two minds about other Classics — they're not formal redesigns in quite the same way, but Stike looks very different from Linx if you put them side-by-side. Scrooge MacDuck 12:42, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Classic is tricky. I think they're all supposed to resemble Linx in-universe, even though they don't because of changes in production/mask creation, etc. I wouldn't be opposed to including different ones from within the classic series though, because like you suggest they do sometimes look different enough. (They are also different fleets, as name-checked in "A Fix with Sontarans"... but then we have to assume the ones seen in "Invasion of Time" are also a distinctive fleet of their own, but we likely wouldn't include them due to looking similar to Linx/Styre.

Maybe we include Linx, Shakedown, 2008 and Flux to start with? — Fractal Doctor @ 12:47, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Suggestions:

Wasn't sure, for the Flux one, if a close-up would work well, or if we'd prefer a full 'army' shot? Alas, these are just suggestions. — Fractal Doctor @ 13:01, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Perhaps an image of the Seventy-Ninth Sontaran Assault Corps should be included? 23:49, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

With regards to the Flux one, I think I prefer the army shot, as we already have closeups of Linx and the 2008 ones. Aquanafrahudy 📢 05:41, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

I think I have to disagree. The army shot is murky at thumbnail size, and moreover I find it more aesthetically pleasing, and informative, if all the shots in a tabbed gallery have similar framing and scale. As regards the 79th boys, it's really only a costume variant, not a variant in what the critters themselves look like, so I'm disinclined to let it count. Scrooge MacDuck 06:02, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
I agree with Scrooge on the Flux Sontarans. I think, where possible, frames we choose to include in tabbed galleries should be similar - I just think it's more aesthetically pleasing. We could still include the 'army' shot later down the page if relevant :) best of both worlds. — Fractal Doctor @ 11:00, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

For no better reason other than the fact we've freshened up the Wiki this year, and it's about to be the anniversary, is there any movement on this? Would be nice to get an infobox gallery in place :) — Fractal Doctor @ 18:37, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Post-fork[[edit source]]

Now we are distinct, and away from the old version of the Wiki, I feel this might be a good time to spark up this discussion again and maybe take a vote on whether or not an infobox gallery would be good for this page? × Fractal 10:40, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
