Masterful names.[[edit source]]

This story introduces official names for the Master. Should these be used as the names used on this wiki?Anastasia Cousins 19:13, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Mostly no. Decayed Master, Saxon Master, Spy Master, War Master and Missy are already official, and much more prominently used; Frazzled Master, Prime Master, Destructive Master, Hidden Master and The Mistress (Deep Breath) should only exist as redirects. As for "Young Master", due to the mess that are accounts of the Master's early life, we don't really have page for the Sound of Drums kid as an incarnation, exactly; so Young Master should redirect to The Master's early life. (It would be a sensible redirect either way, really.)
This leaves Bodysnatching Master for the Tremas Master (whose name is more circumstantial) and Charming Master for The Master (Terror of the Autons) (where we don't currently have a consensus non-dabbed name). Of these, I think only Charming Master has any legs at all; Bodysnatching Master is far too confusing a name. Anybody in their right mind would think of Beevers or Roberts — maybe even Tipple/the Deathworm Morphant itself! — before they thought of Ainley, who is the result of bodysnatching but doesn't meaningfully have body-snatching as an MO.
But I guess there's a conversation to be had about those two. The rest, though — redirects and nothing more, definitely (unless the names start being used elsewhere in official contexts, I suppose). Scrooge MacDuck 19:20, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
The can of worms has been opened. My short answer is no. (I was trying to draft a response but Scrooge has articulated my thoughts pretty much to the letter.)
I'm not a huge fan of The Tremas Master as a name, but I think it works 100x better than The Bodysnatching Master (which surely fits other Masters better, for starters) and is at least recognisable and efficient - that incarnation took over a man called Tremas.
I have no real thoughts on the Delgado incarnation - "Charming" would work, but other Masters have also been somewhat charming when necessary, and it just feels far too broad IMO. Plus I'm not sure one source as written by 1 writer should be the definitive name we use, given he's also written "the Hidden Master" when everywhere else that incarnation is widely known and accepted as "the War Master" — Fractal Doctor @ 19:26, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm not terribly opposed to "Charming Master". Cousin Ettolrahc 19:27, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
