Current operatives.jpg

In the pages of 2016's World Without End the following characters are listed as Torchwood Three operatives; Gwen Cooper, Jack Harkness, Rhys Williams, Dana MacLeish, Hollis Jefferson Albert, Rona Moss, Lady Karina Stirling, and Mary Shelley. Vlad Lidenbrok also joins the team in the same issue. However, none of these characters other than Gwen and Jack are listed on this template (Rhys is only listed as an associate rather than an actual member). RadMatter 10:12, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Also Sladen joined the team in The Culling. RadMatter 04:13, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
Updated accordingly. OncomingStorm12th 19:47, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Template redesign[[edit source]]

I have revamped the template to hopefully give more information to the regular reader. This includes the additions of Agnes Havisham, George Herbert Sanderson, Llinos King, Rhydian, Commodore, Karen Baldwin, James Unsworth, Ariana, Eva Giles and Ng. It also showcases the various leaders of Torchwood 3, as well as Jack's early role as an associate rather than full member, there are also key dates added. DrWHOCorrieFan 16:12, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

I think you've done an amazing job. Just beware of the Aliens of London dating controversy when making this. For example, Children of Earth took place in 2009, hence Ianto Jones died in 2009. Gwen joined during S1 of Torchwood which took place one year after its broadcast date. So Everything Changes would be roughly October 2007 (as verified by the novel Border Princes), not 2006. This only affects the 2000s onwards, so it's an easy fix. It also catches itself up by the Moffat era. Don't let this comment disparage you, you've done an amazing job. I hope this is integrated into the Wiki somewhere. TheFartyDoctor Talk 00:21, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Ah thank you, changes made! DrWHOCorrieFan 02:00, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
I think dividing it up by decade, and then by team role, brings with it too much repetition: the years in brackets should do the trick. Maybe if we tried with the same information, but split up again by century?
For members with unclear dates, just "(1950s)" would do the trick. And everyone would be listed in order (like now) according to when they first joined that role, so it maintains the chronology.

Actually, thinking it over again, maybe we can focus in on significant decades (ie. ones with significant variation from the surrounding decades), and feature the others either as ranges or in relative terms. "Early 20th century", "1950s-1970s"; that sort of thing. Anything that mostly carries over from one decade to the next should just be merged.
× SOTO (//) 15:43, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
I don't understand why you would want the decades merged because a single character (or a couple) overlap? As it stands any reader can go to a specific decade and instantly see which characters were serving in that decade. If we merge categories certain characters have unclear dates so their serving decade would be unclear. For example; if we combined the 1950s-1970s, as you suggested, Turner would be sat in that category and it would be unclear if they served in the 1950s, 60s or 70s whereas the only information we currently have is that they served in the 60s. DrWHOCorrieFan 15:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Surely we could just use parentheses. Character name (1953-57) • Character name (1950s) • etc. And it could just be split up by general era or by century, so that Jack still shows up in each section.

Going to bump this. I still think the template that I have devised is far better than the one we currently have. Any reader can go to a specific time period and see which characters were serving in that specific era. Splitting it by "general era" or century just wouldn't be as clear to the average reader in my opinion. DrWHOCorrieFan 12:11, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
