Tribe of Oy

The "Tribe of Oy" was the name given by Roxton Vincey in 1877 to an ancient tribe of Neanderthals that had existed since approximately 200,000 BC.

In prehistory, the tribe experienced a challenge when one member named Ig offended their leader, Og, upon eating his prized papaya, and a fight broke out. This was interrupted by the arrival of the Doctor's TARDIS. Donna Noble broke up the fight by shouting "oy", allowing Ig to act and take leadership of the tribe, whereupon he and several others began bowing to her and shouting "oy" in recognition as was forced to leave.

Despite the progression of humanity around them, the tribe remained untouched by modern life for millennia until the explorer Roxton Vincey uncovered them on a distant plateau near what was then Venezuela in 1877. He witnessed them praying to a totem based on Donna and continuing to use their "oy" chant, giving them their name as the Tribe of Oy as a result.
