At this point, we're so close to actual transmission that it makes little sense not to wait to see the credits as transmitted. This, after all, is the admonishment of T:CREW. I wouldn't even bother with detailed, per-episode maintenance of the series 8 page, but instead focus on the episode pages themselves as those eps are transmitted.

Bot edits

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I am undoing some of your bot work. Specifically, I am correcting the grammar of your edits on the "date (releases)" pages. Leaving off the word "the" in front of the publications/magazines names is poor grammar. Just try saying some of these sentences to yourself out loud and you'll realize how odd they sound.

I know that CzechOut spent a lot of time giving you instructions on these pages, and that he specifically told you to keep the items short, but he was referring to the amount of information you were to provide, not the grammar. In fact, I've found two examples where he specifically places the word "the" in front of the phrase "TV comic". You can find the examples on User talk:SmallerOnTheOutside/Archive 3#Dates, dated Jun 23, 2013, and Thread:121256, dated Feb 22, 2013.

Also, I have to say it would have been nice if you had let me know that you were using your bot to undo the 365 pages that I had fixed a few months previously. Didn't you even wonder why I was making those particular edits? Thanks. Shambala108 01:19, May 13, 2015 (UTC)

Covers

Hi! On looking over Special:Wantedcategories, I noticed that all but 100 of the 365 wanted categories are of the format "(episode name) (medium) covers". Do you have plans for these uncreated categories? It's been over a year for most of them, and the categories should either be deleted or created, since there are so many images that have these non-existent categories. Thanks. Thanks for the tip on a possible information source and for reaching out to him.

On a partially related topic, there seems to be a weird discrepancy between the website vs. CD information for Big Finish as far as cast is concerned. For earlier releases, the full cast is on the website but not on the CD; for later releases the situation is exactly the opposite. It appears that no single source can have all the information. Question

Hi smaller on the outside, how do you remove redundant categories, thanks pal DENCH-and-PALMER 19:42, December 30, 2015 (UTC)

Redundant Categories

Hi! When making edits, please be aware of redundant categories. They create recursion, which makes things confusing for bots. That's why we try to avoid them as much as possible.MystExplorer 00:21, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

Recursion

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the concept. I was wondering if you could set me straight. Are you saying recursion only applies to categories nested within one another and not to ones that are several categories removed from each other? MystExplorer 22:08, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

The categories I have just edited were only one category removed from each other. Therefore, they were redundant. MystExplorer 02:13, January 10, 2016 (UTC)

Hello! Sorry for asking but do you know who the creator of this wiki is? Thanks!

Truth or Consequences

I noticed you edited the page for the 'Truth or Consequences' short story and figured I'd ask - since the story really is incredibly short (to the point that a typed-up synopsis would be longer than the actual story), and since it's available to the public for free in multiple places, would it be okay to just type out the story for the 'plot' segments of the article? Or is there a rule against that? Cheers. KingOrokos 23:55, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Ah, rightio. I'll wait and let you post what you've got, then type up the rest. Thanks! KingOrokos 00:06, January 22, 2016 (UTC)

2150

Hey, I initially posted this to CzechOut's talk page since he was the one who locked 2150, but he hasn't been around recently/hasn't gotten round to replying, so I figured I'd throw it your way.

I was taking a look at all the pages with red links to 2150 and noticed that one of them isn't actually Cushing-film-related - there's a reference to that year in this comic story. Only a minor one, but what with no such thing as notability and all, I was wondering if that was enough to justify creating a '2150' page. Sorry if you've been asked this before, just thought I'd check! KingOrokos 01:18, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

The problem is that the page is locked against editing/creation. Can you unlock it, or does it need to be CzechOut? KingOrokos 00:36, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

cologne vs. Cologne

Hi! I've found a case that clearly requires a bot but also an experience in handling delicate cases. I hope you could help decide what to do with it.

There is currently a redirect from cologne to perfume. But it had to happen one day that the city of Cologne appeared in DWU. I found a (very brief and cursory) mention in AUDIO: Mary's Story. This creates a problem and questions:

  1. How to call the page for the city of Cologne: should it be dabbed given that the perfume meaning is just a redirect?
  2. Should the redirect be deleted completely (with changing all links, which is best done by a bot)? Or is it better to create a disambiguation page (even though there are even less than two pages: one page and one redirect).

These seem like problems above my pay grade. At the moment in the reference section of Mary's Story I coded the link as Cologne (city) to avoid an incorrect link for the time being. But this is not because I consider this to be the best solution. Amorkuz 00:46, February 12, 2016 (UTC)

There is a confirmation that Cologne is in Germany in Loups-Garoux, so it can be used.
As for Cologne being taken, it is a redirect only. Are redirects of equal value with actual pages?
Wait a moment. The situation is actually worse than I originally reported. The confusion, which I predicted would happen, has already happened. On the pages Loups-Garoux and 28 October, the city is coded as Cologne (city), which at least is not incorrect (leads to a non-existent page). On the page 1589, it is coded as Cologne, Germany (leads to another non-existent page). All three mentions originate from the same source. But the rendition of the same mention on the page Germany uses Cologne and erroneously leads right into the perfume page.
As a novice editor myself, I can perfectly understand someone who starts typing Cologne in double brackets, sees the blue link and trusts it to be the right one. On the other hand, it appears that the links cologne to the perfume are also quite rare: I found only one, on the page Linda (Everything Changes), and another page The Doctor (Battlefield) mentions the word but does not provide a link. So this redirect so far works for exactly one link, to the best of my understanding.
It appears that cologne is a rarely used variant of perfume which hardly warrants a redirect interfering with a city. Perhaps, it would make sense to treat it the same way as hot chocolate is treated on the page Gingerbread, that is by putting an explicit redirect as in cologne. Legacy Inclusion Debate

2 years ago you labelled Legacy (video game) invalid. This inclusion debate could use your opinion the matter of making it valid again. I hope you can reconsider. The Champion of Time 17:22, March 10, 2016 (UTC)

Mr Song

I hope I might be able to interest you in a sufficiently non-trivial case of what should be the correct name for the page of "Mr Song". The current name is taken from the cast of The Diary of River Song and is clearly wrong (if only because of "Mr" alone). But the issue is more interesting... Oh, I was going to list all the relevant facts, but... spoilers (I don't know if you've listened to it already). The discussion is on the talk page of "Mr Song". I am hesitant to start a general Panopticon thread because these tend to go on forever and we are not supposed to change anything until they're closed. Plus this is a sufficiently local issue affecting only two stories. I'd be very happy if you could lend your expertise on this topic. Amorkuz 22:33, April 16, 2016 (UTC)

Categories

I think that some of your categories, like Race or Difference are examples of overcategorisation. I've explained it furthermore on the talk pages. Thank you in advance! RoseTenthFan 13:44, April 26, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Dear SOTO. Thanks for correcting some of my mistakes. And I'm glad to see you back. I also wanted to let you know that I haven't abandoned our discussion on anthologies. Instead, I decided to check a simpler case first and go through the naming scheme for individual stories. My thoughts on the matter are in a separate thread. There I outlined a naming scheme that complied with the existing practice in all cases except for two stories. Incidentally, based on the achieved consensus on the talk page of the story, you have just renamed one of those two stories, so now only one story stands out.

As for the anthologies, I also have ideas originating from both our old discussion and my newly acquired knowledge from listening to some of the anthologies. But these ideas should be developed in sync with the naming scheme for stories, so I'm currently waiting if this would be interesting for sufficiently many editors to merit a serious discussion. Amorkuz 23:55, August 2, 2016 (UTC)

Miss Marple

Thanks for keeping an eye on my speedy renames. I wanted to clarify my position regarding Miss Marple. I thought making her "Jane Marple" could prevent another rename in the future. But I don't mind "Marple" either, if that is a quicker way to remove the T:HONOR violation. I'd be happy to move the links, whichever rename is approved. Amorkuz 07:52, August 15, 2016 (UTC)

New York vs. New York City in category names

Yes, I've been hesitating about this. I really don't know what is best. The New York City naming scheme has started before me, and I'm not sure why it is needed. And shorter names are presumably better if they do not create ambiguities. Presumably, New York City is needed to distinguish it from New York (state). But 1) I don't think there are any categories tied to New York State. 2) Certain things are unnatural to assign to a state. For instance, I can think of New York State streets category by analogy with Category:Florida streets. But New York State subway stations does not make any sense, IMHO. That's why I started dropping City from the category names. But, of course, I could be wrong. Amorkuz 16:59, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I've been too slow in responding: wanted to do a bit of research to make sure NY is okay for all existing categories. But never mind: it was my own fault. I can live with NYC, which is definitely a safe option. And thanks for dealing with my subway station mess. Amorkuz 00:22, August 30, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I believe Category:Towns and cities located in New York was the reason I wanted to dig around more. After thinking about the matter for a couple of days offline, I remembered and tracked down the following rule from T:CAT NAME: "Above all else, category names must not be open to multiple interpretation" explicated later by "Your category should unambiguously name its contents". In view of this, using New York City creates an immediate clarity, as opposed to the reliance on certain thinking patterns if New York is used. In fact, from this position I would even argue that Category:Towns and cities located in New York should be renamed to Category:Towns and cities located in New York State. One might think that no cities can be part of New York City. But there are such monstrosities (in the real universe). First of all, Brooklyn was a city in its own right until 1898. So a story set earlier is likely to portray Brooklyn as a city, perhaps, by boasting it to be the 4th largest city in the US. Secondly, Long Island City is a neighbourhood (and postal address) in New York City. I can come up with more examples, I'm sure. Yes, they are not yet part of the DWU. But with a Rose-like back-to-mom-regularly Brooklyn-based companion, these things are likely to get explored. And again there is a reliance on certain thinking patterns in using New York instead of New York State. Amorkuz 22:56, August 30, 2016 (UTC)

Asmuth infobox

Hey, thanks for the change of the Category on the Asmuth page. However, I have had a problem while creating the page, and, hopefully, you'll be able to help. While linking the source of the information on the article, I could easily figure out the coding needed was this: Bigger on the Inside. However, when I tried to use this on the infobox, it didn't work. Neither did using this version of the coding: "|" .Is there any way to link directly to the Bigger on the Inside part of the "Legacy" article? Or would it be necessary to create a new page for it? OncomingStorm12th 21:49, September 7, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, but the thing is: when I apply [[Article#Section name]] on the "|only= " parameter, it displays "Article#Section name". However, only the Section name would be needed on the infobox. I'm sorry that I didn't properly explain myself up here, but this is the real issue I've had, displaying only the section name instead of the whole thing. OncomingStorm12th 22:03, September 7, 2016 (UTC)
Is there any other means to make it? Because using the trick you suggested created another issue: Now, it displays "Bigger on the InsideBigger on the Inside". If there isn't, well, at least thank you for trying to help. OncomingStorm12th 22:20, September 7, 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I was wondering why in this case a redirect was left behind, since most cases don't. The fact that there is a redirect makes navigating from another page to this one a bit tricky (at least for me so far). For example: if you are on the Kybo page and click on "Nineteenth Judoon Interplanetary Force" you go to a redirect page, not the article itslef. OncomingStorm12th 23:19, October 24, 2016 (UTC)

(allowing it to add 2 or 3 different audio clips, given that Big Finish Bernice Summerfield series would need two, and other pages may need more). Thanks OncomingStorm12th 01:28, October 29, 2016 (UTC)

Cindy Wu

Dear SOTO, the template for Template:Companions of the Tenth Doctor is locked, so I can't add her there emyself. But I hope the edit wars were not about her. Cindy Wu should be considered a full-fledged comic multi-story companion, travelling in the TARDIS since the end of Arena of Fear. Moreover, the template is added to her page, but she is not added to the template. I'd appreciate if you could add her. Amorkuz 22:12, October 26, 2016 (UTC)

Characters in a novel

Hi, quick question. I never knew what the right character order was, but somehow main characters are often at the top of the list, with the Doctor almost always being the first. I noticed that in The Stone House, the list starts from Tanya, then Miss Quill, which is more or less the order of appearance. Is there a particular order required/desired? Recursion

Right. Sorry. Got it. Won't happen again. Although to be honest, CzechOut was the one who first told me about recursion. Maybe I misinterpreted what he said but you might want to check with him just to make sure we're all on the same page. MystExplorer 02:38, October 30, 2016 (UTC)
